The Summer Sport Coat

Certain staples should be in every man’s closet – one of those should be a Summer sport coat. No, this isn’t a regional thing, but here in the South it is a must.

Cotton, linen, silk – or a blend – are perfect for hot Sunday afternoons after church or the humid nights out on the town. I prefer either no pattern or something very subtle (a herringbone or bird’s eye), and soft shoulders.

It’s a very versatile piece; it goes over a madras or dark gingham shirt, or with a dark tie and saddles. Need some direction? Try these:

Norman Hilton Palmer (Great shot, Fred): Is that a 3/2 roll? Why yes it is…

Brooks Brothers Panama: Pastel-Friendly

Ralph Lauren Bird’s Eye: Great example of the dark tie.

Billy Reid Ruston: Pincord – the formal version of seersucker

Southwick Silk Matka: Bring an umbrella…just in case.

At the SCAD thing Fred spoke at last night, there was this guy with an awesome navy gingham sport coat. I would love one of those.
