As you all know, I do enjoy doing some thrifting every once in a while. While most visits don’t yield any sort of return, some do. Earlier this week, I had a very high yield return. I was walking through the sports section, where I usually don’t see anything worth a second glance. This time I saw the “Project X” logo on a golf club shaft, and it peaked my interest. What came next was the find of the year (thus far):
Yep. Three full sets of irons. Titleist AP2s, Callaway Forged-Xs and Callaway Forged-X Tours. 3-PW. Project X 5.5 Rifle shafts. All is outstanding shape, roughly 85-90% of life left. And the best part:
$12.91 a set. I couldn’t believe it. They all came home with me.
I’ve been playing my Mizuno MP-60s for a few years and love them, but have been getting the itch to replace them. You know how it is, you are never satisfied with your golf equipment. The irons I had my eye on were the Titleist AP2s, but I wasn’t very jazzed about spending $900 on a new set. Problem solved. I am going to get them regripped with the Golf Pride Masters-themed grips (I’m not a big fan of the stock Titleist grips).
Now, here is where I need your help. I do need to upgrade my driver. I have a few that I’m looking at, and would like your opinions:
1. Titleist 913 D2 – I’m leaning towards this one.
2. Ping G25 – Same for Ping. I’ve hit a buddy’s Ping and really like feel.
3. Cleveland 588 Custom – Cleveland drivers have really come a long way in the last couple years.
So what do you think? What’s good/what’s not? I typically hit a relatively straight ball, with a slight draw. Let’s hear it…
