The Brown Sweater Spectrum

We are deep into sweater weather.  The air is cold and the wind is brisk, even here in Atlanta.  We’ve all got a drawer full of sweaters – all sorts of colors, styles, and textures.  For some reason, the brown sweater is often overlooked.  Why?  i’m not sure, but I’ve remedied that problem across the board.

Over the past few months, I have bought three different brown sweaters that cover all my bases.  First up, I pulled the trigger on this cashmere job from Read Wall.  This is the traditional crew neck sweater made of 100% Scottish Cashmere.  I plan on dressing this bad boy up.  Over a dress shirt with charcoal trousers and tassel loafers, down to great jeans and boots.  This is already seeing some serious play:

Second, the Ball and Buck Commando sweater.  Back when they were running the 35% off sale, I couldn’t pass it up.  This is a thick wool sweater with all the shooting details.  The leather details give it a ‘tough’ look.  I have been wearing this quite a bit on the weekend with jeans, and to shoot some clays.  I have a few quail hunts coming up where I plan on putting this one to work:

Lastly, this Simms Rivershed quarter zip.  I got this when Man Outfitters was doing a Fall sale, and they happened to have my size.  I have worn this fishing a couple times, and it has been a great fleece to wear after work.  The thing I like about it is the length.  A lot of these fleeces are short, and aren’t that protective when untucked and casting.  The sleeves are about an inch longer as well.  Very functional.  Worth every penny:

I got two light tan alpaca sweaters, one v-neck and one crew, from different sources during winter sales after Christmas.  They really go well with either dress pants or jeans of any color.  My new favorite is this rich brown, with a hint of copper, cashmere v-neck from Peter Millar I received as a gift a year ago and never wore.  I thought the color was too rich, but I was wrong…love it.  Good report but I’m still not digging the leather patches…

Wondering if you have any insight on the fit of the Ball and Buck Commando sweater? Is it cut on the trimmer side, or is it a more full generous cut?? Any insight would be helpful, as I may order but am hesitant about the final sale aspect never having bought a sweater from them before.

I would highly recommend…it is cut a bit full, so order accordingly.  I wear a 40R and have a size M sweater.
