I had some time to kill in downtown Atlanta, so I stopped in Sid Mashburn. It was quite an experience – believe everything you have read about this place and the man: the store is exactly what I would want my closet to look like, and the proprietor is top notch. It was great to finally meet Sid Mashburn; he and his whole staff were great – engaging, not pushy, and seemed to enjoy simply spending time with the customers. None of them wore socks. The store has a very friendly atmosphere, which was contagious to everyone – we all seemed to be a part of everyone else’s conversations – but not in a nosy way.

While I didn’t leave with much (I did find the Smart Turnout Royal Regiment of Fusiliers strap I’ve been looking for – in America), I could have dropped a bag of cash without batting an eye. The custom suiting section has everything you would ever need. The suits are impeccable. The rest of the store included sport shirts, Fred Perry polos, Levis, the famous Sid Mashburn khakis, Russell Moccasin boots and mocs, Katin trunks, Filson bags, and ties. I’ve never seen a better selection of shoes – the Sid Mashburn Double Monk cap toes are as nice as I’ve ever seen. Their selection of Persols and Ray Bans is very impressive, and the accessories at the register are as good as it gets – buckles, Moleskine, Caran D’Ache pens, and Smart Turnout watch straps. Oh – and the play vinyl.
Some of the highlights (A.K.A – the start of my Christmas list):
(Clockwise from the top left):
1. Sid Mashburn Double Monks
2. Sid Mashburn Gingham Sport Shirt
3. Levis Desert Tan 501s
4. Sid Mashburn Oyster Belt Buckle
5. Russell Camp Moccasins
**Some of this can be bought online at Taigan.
If you are ever in Atlanta, do yourself a favor and stop by. Sid and his crew will know your name within five minutes. Oh – and ladies, Sid’s wife just opened Ann Mashburn.
