Mad Max: Fury Road. The Worst Movie Ever Made.

I am happy to say that I have found the worst movie ever made.  Mad Max: Fury Road graced my DVR yesterday evening while I was catching up on some work and blogging.   At this point, I am happy I made it through.  There was no plot, Tom Hardy grunts a lot, Charlize Theron has half an arm, and everything is post-apocalyptic.  That’s the good stuff.  The bad stuff: everything else.  I will not get that two hours and twenty three minutes back.

At the twenty minute mark, I was about to stop the movie but said to myself: “Self: let’s plow through”.  It was providing some background noise, but as bad as it was, I was intrigued – like watching cheese on a pizza melt.  Sort of gross but fun to watch.

An hour in I was fully engaged.  I felt like a member of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

The close of the movie is exactly as you’d expect: horrible.  After Charlize’s performance in The Devil’s Advocate,  I thought she could do no wrong.  I was wrong.  Tom Hardy in Inception?  Awesome.  Tom Hardy in Mad Max: Fury Road?  Like watching the cast of Party Down South do Algebra.

I would rather watch Ishtar or Caddyshack 2 on purpose rather than watch Mad Max: Fury Road.  Look at it like I took a bullet for all of you last night.  Do not watch this movie.

i personally don’t understand how people see a preview for a movie like that and think, “wow that looks like a great movie!”. But they did make 142 Fast and Furious and 13 transformer movies so clearly there is a market

I couldn’t agree more. It is a shame because I love both Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. Perhaps I just do not like this style of movie.
To see Tom Hardy at his best check out both THE DROP, and THE REVENANT.
The characters are completely different. A comparison of the two films shows the tremendous range that Tom Hardy has.
The only problem with his role as Fitzgerald in THE REVENANT is that his southern accent is to modern. He sounds just like my redneck cousin. That was probably a voice coach error.

I’m curious to as what you think is a great film because honestly this is the best movie in the past 5 years. And, spoiler, Tom Hardy isn’t the lead in this film it’s Charlize Theron, he’s just there to move her along. Everything from the score, the filmmaking (Christopher Nolan could use some pointers from George Miller filming action scenes) and the cars are near perfect and there’s a reason it’s a top all-time rated film with 10 oscar nominations. The Devil’s Advocate won one award and only nominated for a few more, none from an important awards ceremony. You actually sympathize with her character and I personally think that there should be more strong female leads in Hollywood films. Maybe that’s why 90% of what’s out there is crap.

Also, big fan of The Revenant and seen it 3 times in theaters. Jack Fisk, the production designer, is one of the best in Hollywood and creates a wonderful film. If Colin Gibson (Mad Max’s production designer) doesn’t win it should be him. Best part of the movie though is Tom Hardy absolutely and is hilarious if you ask me. If you want to see his best performance, watch BRONSON. And, sorry Roger, his accent was pretty spot on and he probably does sound like a redneck because that’s exactly what he is.

If you think this god awful so called mad max film is any good then you have no idea what a great film
Actually looks like if you like stupid and dumb action set pieces then go and watch The Fast and the Furious that’s full of stupidity and max playing second fiddle to a supporting character is a problem from start to. Finish especially in his own film no plot give me road warrior any day gibson is still mad max

You are wrong. This movie was horrible. No story, no nuance, horrible dialogue. Just a bunch of cars driving through a desert for 2 hours. x

I concur with BDOWD’s comment – please stick to clothing and items of such and put your movie critiques elsewhere. Mad Max Fury Road was everything a post apocalyptic adventure should be. Over-the-top, bleak and dreary landscapes, impossible scenarios and simple dialogue. The setting and action are the stars, the props and vehicles the supporting cast and the actors merely there to help move it along.

I agree. like Waterworld, but dry and not as realistic. Makes me want to never watch a movie again. I tried three times and lasted 30 minutes, the third time.

  11. 03/03/2016 / 12:37 AM

The makeup is fucking atrocious in this film. Dry arid landscapes make for thick, sludgy viewing. It’s a real mire, this film. I feel as if it’s a joke on me, that somewhere people are watching my confused reactions. It looks like they went and did a habitat for humanity build to look all dirty beforehand… like they put on makeup and then dirt. I couldn’t get past that upon first glance at theron. I find Tom Hardy’s lack of acting to be as confusing as Theron’s scopolamine stare. Acting is just not what either of these people are doing in this clip. I don’t think I’ll ever look at movies or people the same after this test clip, so I guess I should thank Charlize Theron for that, or Tom Hardy. Surely this was some crowd reaction experiment that I fall into the 1% on, because all you people’s senses of discernment regarding what you allow into your life is sadly lacking. This offensive and unpalatable abortion should be investigated for fraud, because what they made here, albeit acclaimed, is acclaimed as something other than a movie.. because it’s a long blown audition clip.

I thought I was the only one that simply didn’t get it with Fury Road. There is simply no story. They drive down a road, turn around, and drive back. That takes 2 hours and a half hours of screen time. Zero plot. Zero character development. Nothing.

There is a guy that plays a guitar with fire coming out of it, so if you’re the kind of person that still enjoys building torches out of a lighter and an aerosol can, this movie might be for you.

To call any movie, the worst ever made, is a big claim. So you say that MM failed on every level of movie making. From costume design to acting. I’m sorry but the worst movie ever made must fall into this category. One of the true highlights of MM is its set, prop and costume design and its cinematography is something to be rivalled. To say it is worse than The room, plan 9 or jack and Jill is, I’m afraid, wrong.

Mad Max 1 was pure adrenaline & suspense worthy of cult classic status, absolutely!
    Mad Max 2 Was brutal & suspenseful,action packed,dim,sad & bleak
should have closed here end of story.
Mad Max 3? Come on in the real world your priorities would be
    food,water & shelter NOT petrol & oil.
Mad Max 4 UTTER CRAP !!! Nothing but a mindless car chase! No story,No Plot,No character 100 % GARBAGE !!!!!!!!!

“Worst movie ever made” is obviously hyperbole, but it was certainly terrible. The fact that so many people liked it is interesting and illustrates that many people watch movies for reasons beyond story or acting. That is certainly their right, but it’s clear that they succeed or fail based on totally different criteria.

Have any of these people seen the original ones. This movie is a tribute to them and completely genius!

Consider the time and existence these characters are living in. What do you expect, them to be educated, carry out sophisticated conversations.

Adrenaline rush the whole way though!

Best movie in a long time!

This is the most ridiculous piece of crap ever made. The strange high speed filming techniques, the lack of a plot, the drums and the freaking guitar that shot out flames, not to mention the ultra white people and the feminist horseshit. Anyone who pretends to like this movie is a liar. The movie sucks so bad that it makes me angry to even think about it.

Oh my god, thankfully there’s a place to admit my shame for watching that waste of film. Let’s all hope they won’t do a second one of those. At least I can say I never watched any Honey Boo Boo episodes, at least until I watched that movie. I would call it stupid but I don’t want to slander the word.

Thank you. I still cannot believe how bad this movie is. I walked out after an hour or so in the theater. Watched it again at home after reading all these rave reviews. It was even worse the second time around. No story, no plot, no realism to any of it, ridiculous characters with ridiculous masks and clothing, stupid makeup… oh man… the list is endless. Very, very, insanely bad. And for the life of me, I cannot understand that anyone would like it…

Terrible movie…..only gave it a chance due to high viewer ratings. I have watched many bad movies that were a complete waste of time, but this movie left me feeling angry. Angry that money was wasted on making it, angry I will never get my time back, and angry from the deception that rotten tomatoes hath wrought upon us. If you like explosions, grunting, stupid future lingo like ‘Mcfeasting in Valhalla” and albino desert zombies, this one might be for you. I am disappointed in you America. Idiocracy is the Movie you should be watching. Because apparently that is where we are heading.

Wow, I thought I was alone. I watched this movie once 5 years ago. The only reason why I’ve returned to the subject is due to the Furiosa prequel announcement. I’m guessing George Miller is moving forward with this ( instead of another Mad Max) because the version of the character that was written for Tom Hardy was so non-existent, that he was basically a stand-in for Mel in a Furiosa side story. Too bad. At this point, so many years later, Mel Gibson could certainly return to the role, but Miller would have to grow a pair.

I’m on board with the load of hot garbage this movie is. For years in conversations about bad movies I would bring up anything with Whoopi Goldberg in it. Whoopi even ruins Star Trek and not just The Next Generation. And also not just the scenes she is in. She even ruins the original tv series. I cannot watch Star Trek anything without thinking how bad anything with her in it is. This Mad Max movie is so bad. Not even Charlize makes it good. The explosions were terrible. The cars, the makeup was like kindergarten stuff. Sorry young children. The scenes were bad. Zero cinematography, less than zero story line. Zero action. One of the pregnant ladies was kind of cute. There I found one thing good. And then there’s Tom Hardy. Who lets this guy do anything. Tom Hardy should be sentenced to Jason Statham movies for eternity. I need to wash my mouth out with soap and water 3 times for the 2 times I said his name and the time I almost did. This movie is embarrassing to the legacy of Mad Max. Whomever let the producers and writers, etc. be involved in this movie should be banned from everything for ever and possibly extending to their descendants. Dud, dud, dud.

This movie was released the same year that trump was elected. All I the only one who isn’t surprised that it was widely loved. Everyone commenting that this author is wrong is also a flat earther who can’t point out Russia or China on a map and wore MAGA hats. Just be happy they spent their money on this garbage film and trump merch so they will never amount to anything. I’m glad some of us took the red pill.
