Help Wanted: Wallet Time

In a follow up to my Lately post, I mentioned that I am in the market for a new wallet. Here are the ones I’m considering:

Now – I’ve never been a high fashion guy, but I really like that navy Gucci wallet up top. Mrs. Red Clay Soul likes that one, too. What do you think? Any others I should consider?

    Gurkha IMHO.

However, I converted to a card case in my front pocket a long time ago and I'll never go back to a Costanza Wallet…

Personally, I feel an all leather wallet is always the best choice, so I'd go for the Filson. It will hold up and age well, and its about half the price of the Ghurka, and while I'm not sure about the Ghurkas, the Filson wallet is U.S. Made.

The white stitching on the Smathers & Branson seems like it would become discolored and just look dirty over time and the Gucci makes me think of a womens purse/wallet. Also, I've owned wallets in the past that were a combination of leather and various fabric or textiles, and I never quite felt like I was carrying a "grown mans" wallet.

Personally, I'd take a gander over to Levengers, I've had a couple from them that have held up well over time. But if I had these choices, I'd go with the Ghurka.

I've had a Smathers & Branson wallet in the UGA pattern for over a year and a half. It's held up really well and still looks great, hardly any discoloration or problems with the stitching. The leather is still in great shape too. It's a little unexpected and I get compliments on it wherever I go, even when I'm not talking to a Georgia fan.

I like the Gucci as well but — wonder if the fabric will wear our going in and out of your pocket. The Ghurka is my second choice.

Either way – good luck with it!

Oh geez, whatever you do, don't the Gucci. I can't believe you're even considering it – what vulgar, trendy nonsense.

Try jack spade, I've always had luck there. Really like their new ridged wallet.

I'm in the same boat as 24/7 Restless – men should carry all-leather wallets. But when it comes down to it, get what YOU want, because you're the dude who has to look at it every day.

Check out Saddleback Leather. I have a briefcase from them, and it is as durable as anything you will come across. I like their wallets but have not purchased one yet. All of their products have a classic design with no frills. Besides, you can't beat something that comes with a 100 year warranty!

Anon @ 7:26AM & Anon @ 10:01PM – I'm transitioning from a front pocket wallet – specifically the Col. Littleton model. I need the real estate in my front right pocket back for my phone.

@Brad – I've always liked the Smathers and Branson wallets. Glad to hear it has held up well. Go Dawgs

As for this wallet – my attention span is pretty short, so whatever I get will probably be replaced in a year to 18 months…

I have had the Filson for 2 years now and it looks brand new. Filson builds an indestructible product.

I've carried the Gusseted Card Case from Bosca for years and years. Slim, very high quality, and only holds your license and a certain amount of cards to keep clutter to a minimum. Cash deserves its own real estate in a tasteful, good-quality money clip, IMHO.

If I was going to replace this wallet in a year to 18 months, then I probably wouldn't be spending anywhere near the amount that any of these wallets cost. But hey, it's your money.

    @-DH – I agree. I use a clip as well – mainly when the occasion calls for a suit/etc.

@Anon @ 12:12PM – Yeah, my original comment sounded a little conceited, and that wasn't the intention.

    @Anon @ 3:33PM – I like that navy chromexcel…

Go Filson, RCS! I work two blocks from Filson's flagship store in Seattle, WA. There is a window to the factory (sewing) floor, where wonderful women with little, nimble fingers stitch wallets and other amazing pieces. That's really knowing your product. Cheers!
