Early Spring Goods

I rarely do a Spring post this early, but it’s supposed to be 80 degrees in Georgia this weekend.  While it’s hard to believe, Spring may be here…early.  Most haven’t transitioned their closets to the lighter fabrics and lighter colors, including putting the tweeds, the flannels, and the heavy sweaters to bed.  Well, here’s a head start on what goods to add to your Spring wardrobe:

From top left:

1. Ray Ban The General Square Aviators:  I like the idea of a new pair of sunglasses per year.  These Ray Bans are an updated look on the traditional aviators, of which you probably already have a couple pairs.
2. Onward Reserve Austin Tailored Fit Button Down:  A new lighter and brighter button down is a smart addition.  One like this from Onward, with a white base and a good plaid, is a shirt you’ll be able to wear all year.
3. Boglioli Lightweight Wool Sport Coat:  You can never have too many blue sport coats.  An unstructured wool option will get a lot more wear than you think, especially this time of year.
4. Flood Tide Trucker Cap:  Start breaking this in now…it’ll be perfect by the time the sweat marks show up.
5. Allman Brothers Needlepoint Belt:  The ultimate custom needlepoint belt.  Want one? Call my guys at Miller Brothers for the hook up.
6. Criquet Long Sleeve Player’s Shirt:  This is the kind of shirt that works in a multitude of situations.  Under a sweater (#13), with jeans, khakis, or untucked with shorts, or on the course (including the 19th hole).
7. Tory Leather Ring Belt:  A cool belt with a unique buckle.  It’s got a cool 60’s vibe that adds a bit of cool to an outfit.  Pair these with tassel loafers.  Just right.
8. Ball and Buck X New Balance 999 Running Shoes:  Since you’ve already got the grey ones…add a little color this year.  Feel free to forget the socks.
9. Naked & Famous Selvedge Weird Guy Chino Pants:  Not quite chinos, and cooler than jeans.  They’ll break in and become a staple in your warm month rotation.
10. Billy Reid John Shirt:  A lightweight shirt option that shouldn’t ever be dry cleaned.  Wash, light iron, and let it rip.  Wear it like a polo…it’ll be as soft.
11. Carhartt Michigan Chore Coat:  It still gets cold, so a jacket is a necessity.  I’m all about utility, so put this one to work.
12. Martin Dingman Old Row Penny Loafers:  Remember those loafers you wore back in college?  Well here they are, new and improved.
13. Brooks Brothers Button Mock Neck Cotton Sweater:  While there is still room for sweaters, it’s a good idea to transition to cotton, as it’ll be lighter than wool.  It’s better for layering.
14. Parajumpers Perfect Vest:  There’s always room for another vest.  Always.
15. Filson Large Grab-N-Go Tote:  Come Spring, there are plenty of reasons to get up and go…have a handy tote on hand to get you where you’re going.

Good list.  I’m tempted by the Naked & Famous selvedge chino/denim/5-pocket pants.  I hesitate to pull the trigger on-line since sizing is all over the place.  Like my Gustin denim, I don’t want to have to buy 3 times to find the right fit.  Shed any light on the N&F sizing for us since you have a couple pair now.

$350 for a bleepin’ polyester down vest?!  Is it bullet proof?

So many good things on this list except #12. I knew before I even looked at the details that you’d have Martin Dingman on the list. There are so many better options for this price point vs Dingman, who simply don’t hold up. On the good side, I couldn’t like the Criquet shirts more. Just a perfect weekend shirt.

I had a pair with the vibram sole that lasted 5 years. They last. They finally died over last summer when I put 8 miles on them a day at work.

I agree with you, vibram us great but these shoes don’t have that. These soles are thin and slick. I know because I bought them off his last recommendation and they didn’t last six months. Different feet and preferences i guess.

What are better in that price point, in your opinion?

I would say Allen Edmonds. Great customer service and their Kenwood loafer is my favorite, luckily I purchased several pairs just in case they would be discontinued. You can find some great deals on the AE shoe bank.
