Back from a Tune Up: Alden for Brooks Brothers 986 Shell Cordovan Penny Loafers

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.  When making large purchases, it is so important that the item has the ability to be repaired.  It’s also important for large purchases to be of a ‘classic style’ – so that it’ll still work in 20 years – not only from repairs, but with the outfit.

These Alden for Brooks Brothers unlined shell cordovan penny loafers (AKA the ‘ole 986ers) just took their second trip back to Alden for a tune up.  The first trip was very needed, as the sole was wearing very thin.  During that resole, there was a problem with the stitching along the sole of the shoe.  The problem became more and more prevalent as the wears piled up, so I contacted Alden about the situation.  Without even asking for anything, they asked that I send the shoes back and they would make everything right.  After a couple of weeks, they came back better than new:

This only made my respect and admiration for Alden greater – if that is possible.  I can’t say enough good things about them.  Quality products, top notch customer service, and timeless style.  What else could you ask for?

They look great – like new! I might have to send mine in sometime in the near future.

About how long did it take from sending them off to their arrival at your doorstep?

Very nice.  My favorite shoe.  One small thing:  In the second paragraph, I think you mean the problem became more “prominent” rather than “prevalent.”  But maybe not.
