A Find: Dead Stock Duck Camo

I have this weird obsession with old school camo.  What used to be called ‘Duck Camo’ is now mainly featured in streetwear, except for Ball and Buck, who have their own version.  I own just about everything they offer in that camo.  It’s a throwback look, and the anti-new-fangled-technical camo.  Sure, I get that new camo has it’s place, and the technical fabrics provide some comfort.  I am drawn to the old school stuff.  I really like it, as it has a style all it’s own.

Besides Ball and Buck, it’s really tough to find pieces in Duck Camo and similar variations.  I am constantly looking for vintage camo on Ebay and Etsy.  I’ve gotten lucky more times that I’d admit (I am really digging this Chamios Shirt I found…), but I came across these old Walls pants on Ebay the other day, and after a Paypal payment of $16, they were mine:

They description didn’t give many details, but I’d assume these were sitting in someone’s closet for the last ~25 years+.  I vaguely remember Oshman’s, it was a sporting goods store that is now defunct.  I really like the price, and the sale price.

They are 100% cotton in a medium weight, and have never seen the light of day.  These will work perfectly in mid-season dove hunts or late-season quail hunts.  They aren’t going to provide much warmth, but as a hunter in the Southeast, it’s nice to have some lighter weight options.

The second best part: the Ranger pockets:

The best part: they fit like a glove.  No alterations needed.

Keep an eye out, readers.  If you come across any old-school camo stuff like this, let me know.

The old Duxbak brand has been brought back and they have some really sharp old school camo jackets and hunting vests.

There is also a great Facebook Group called Vintage Hunting Gear Swap & Brag that is a great place to find older Hunting clothes and equipment.

Good find!  Drake Waterfowl also has an old school camo that’s worth checking out.

Drake Waterfowl quality is junk! I refuse to buy anything by Drake these days. Bought a $400 dollar wading jacket and had the seams coming apart after three trips and I take very good care of my gear.

I’ve had better luck, although admittedly most of my Drake gear is older.  Could be that their quality has slipped.  And no doubt they’re proud of their stuff.

The Sporting Gent in Charlotte has a great line of duck camo field bags, game belts, and soft coolers. Very cool stuff.
