On The List: The Datejust

A good friend of mine recently turned me on to the Rolex Datejust.  My watches are all 40mm+, and all would measure on the ‘bulky’ side.  Honestly I like a bigger watch, but I’ve developed a fondness for the Datejust.  I really like the elegance and simplicity of the watch.  And the 36mm size would be a nice break from my larger lineup.  They also look great with either a metal bracelet or a leather strap.  The price point is good for a Rolex, especially on the used market.

In terms of the style, I like them all.  The silver case/silver face is classic, but the all gold is great as well (Mrs. RCS would steal that one from me).  The two tone will never go out of style, and the alt faces (green/blue) are handsome.  Overall, I think I’d choose the silver case with the black face.  Again, I don’t think you can go wrong.  Here is a rundown of some great examples:

Which one is your favorite?

I am a sucker for white dial watches so that would be my choice.

That last picture represents the watch that’s been on my list for a while, I just haven’t pulled the trigger.  Two-toned jubilee bracelet with a champagne dial just screams classic to me.

Classics!  I like the Air King too…non-date simplicity, Oyster bracelet, affordable Rolex option.

I have the light blue face. Best watch I’ve ever had and the best looking.

I bought a blue dialed 116234 identical to the one in the 9th photo and it’s been my “one watch” ever since.

I think all men should embrace smaller watches. I wear a 34mm Air-King most days that looks great on a bracelet (and wears larger) and a strap. More so, you will likely love how your lady looks in it when she steals it.

Really liking #2, #7 and #9. I’ve really wanted to pull the trigger on a Rolex but worried it will be just like the country club. Never used.

It looks like at least one of the photos is of a 41mm Datejust. I’d suggest you check out the reference 1601 on the jubilee bracelet.

Not a “huge” fan of the fluted bezel, I love the OP that replaced the AK (for a year) – also a fan of ND watched; this is a classic Rollie and looks awesome w/ a jubilee or leather.
I own a 34mm Tudor mid 60’s (? – manual wind) w/ 12-3-6-9 face that is awesome (don’t wear much), never have been a fan of 42mm + watches – just too big.
Great post RCS – keep it up!
