Off-season Ebay Find: Barbour

As many of you know, I’m a pretty avid Ebay-er.  I don’t buy much, but I do like the hunt.  When I do buy, it’s usually some sort of gem that I find for a ridiculous price.  My closet space is like NYC real estate – the value per square foot is continually on the rise, and I like to keep good tenants as occupants.

One of the tricks of good Ebay-ing is using the seasons to your advantage.  There aren’t that many Patagonia Stand Ups available in the colder months, but those that are sell for roughly half of what they would sell for now.  Same goes for Barbours…oh, and I snagged this beauty yesterday.

Vintage Barbour Bedale in what appears to be the elusive Sage color – excellent condition – for under $100 (includes shipping).  Needless to say, I’m pumped.

Check out those chest pockets:

Those are the Ebay images…I’ll give a full report once it arrives…

    I just snagged a year old navy Bedale for $130 last week. It’s definitely the time to hunt for them. Did you have to buy it internationally?

    This Barbour Bedale jacket was the first wax cotton jacket I bought back in 1979! They last forever!

    I like the idea of these bit hate the short sleeves on them, I bought one off eBay and resold it the next month.

    Drew,

    I understand your frustration re: the Barbour jacket sleeves. However, Barbour Repair http://www.barbour.com/static/cs_repair_reproofing_page does allow you to lengthen or shorten the sleeves (among other details) at their shop in NE. I’ve had them repair and increase the arms of a jacket I purchased on eBay, as well.

    Sweet deal! You gonna get it re-waxed?

    @Glen – You got that right…this will be my third Bedale, so I have enough for three lifetimes!

    @Drew – I’m curious about the sleeves as well…

    @Tony – I’m definitely going to have it cleaned, so more thank likely, yes, I’ll have it re-waxed as well.

    Need advice:

    I have an llbean field jacket, But I’ve always wanted a Barbour. I like the bedale style a lot but wonder if it’s worth it? I also like the quilted flyweight Chelsea. I definitely want a jacket that I can dress up a little. Thoughts?
