Masters Schwag: The Unsung Hero

My friend TJ, the founder and President of Onward Reserve, sent me this picture last night with the caption “I have a problem”.  I immediately recognized his collection, and think that his diagnosis is incorrect.  I texted back: “I am super impressed. Seriously. A man after my own heart.”

We’ve talked a lot of schwag from The Masters and from Augusta National over the past week, and we’ve failed to recognize the unsung hero of ALL Masters schwag: the free cups.  These cups are absolutely outstanding.  You’ll spend a buck or two on a lemonade or a domestic light beer, and each and every time, that beverage is served in a highly collectable, dated cup.

These cups balance just the right amount of laissez faire, in that it’s not heartbreaking if one goes missing, and sturdy, in the sense that it’ll last you all day at the pool/beach/back porch and it’ll survive the dishwasher.  We have a big collection as well, and it’s growing every year.  We use them as roadies, and do our best to keep up with them.  The power play is when they get a little faded.  I don’t know if it gets much better than a Tito’s and tonic in faded Masters cup at the beach.

Well done, TJ.  Put those cups to good use.

Got a collection of Masters cups you’d like to share?  Shoot me a picture and I’ll update the post below.

Agreed. The Patina is the best part.

The best is when you get the smaller “liquor drink” cups.  they look the same, just smaller….Only way to get them is from the clubhouse

Pinehurst Resort also has similar cups. Not as cool as the Masters but…neat nonetheless.

Jared knows what’s up.  Tonic?  Never.  Tito’s and soda only.

Do you know who makes these cups?  I assume you can tell by the markings on the bottoms.  Thanks
