Duane Allman. 42 Years.

42 years ago yesterday (October 29, 1971) the great Duane Allman passed at the age of 24.  While he left too soon, what he left will live forever.

A top 5 – maybe top 3 – guitarist of all time.  See evidence here – “Statesboro Blues” from the 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival:

One of the first albums I remember playing was ‘The Allman Brothers Band’ on Dad’s record player.  Along with ‘The Gambler’ by Kenny Rogers and all the Sesame Street songs, I knew all the words.  To say that the Allman Brothers’ and Duane’s guitar were influential in my youth is a complete understatement.  Sad day, folks.  Sad day.

Doo-wang. Maybe one of the only credible reincarnation situations in the Western world with Derek Trucks. Looking at those pics, it’s hard to believe he’s only 24.

He’ll certainly live on in memory, through his music, and possibly through the cover of a certain album on Halloween by a certain band from Vermont.

The keyboardist’s mid solo PBR drinking is perfect.

The keyboardist? C’mon man…that’s Brother Gregg!

One ought, every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and, if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words.
