Austin, TX – Documented on my Camera Phone

I’ve spent some time in Texas – but never outside of Dallas. Last week, I finally made it to Austin for five days. What a town – great people, great attitude, and great food. While I was there for work, I was able to get out and about.

Sunday: 73 degrees and sunny. A little breezy.
I ate BBQ in all shapes and forms during my stay. Sometimes twice a day. Rudy’s had the best beef brisket – extra cool points for a ‘The Worst BBQ in Texas’ neon sign inside the restaurant (that shares a building with a Shell station).
Tuesday: 36 degrees and snow.
Vintage Toyota Land Cruiser in the parking deck of my hotel. Fully restored. Drooling ensued.
Spent a little time on 6th Street. It lives up to it’s reputation.
Overall – I’ll give Austin two thumbs up. I’d love to go back during football season with my better half – I can imagine it’s a hoot. I like going places that are friendly – everyone seemed up for giving a smile or a nod. My kind of people.

Deep in the heart of texas!

Great city. My cousins started Pluckers Wings there so many a family get together has been in Austin. Football season is crazy, especially the tailgate at Scholz's Beer Garten.

Relative to what else is available, Rudy's is pretty marginal stuff. Next time you are in Austin, venture 30 minutes or so out of town to Lockhart and try Kreuz Market. It's the best barbeque in Texas, which means it is the best anywhere.

If you REALLY want to see friendly folks, take a raod trip 90 miles easat to College Station during football season when you Dawgs roll into town!

You’ll be treated well and enjoy a great gameday atmosphere. No sixth street, but you won’y miss it.

    gig ’em!
