A Kicker: Gallet Watch

Last Sunday I was bumming around Scott’s Antique Market passing some time before the UGA game.  While Mrs. RCS and I have spent a ton of weekends there searching for furniture for our house, we haven’t spent much time looking for the smaller stuff.

I did. And I came across this:

I have admired Gallet watches on Instagram for quite some time.  They are excellent vintage WWII era watches that are built like tanks.  This one was outstanding.  The watch is in fine working order, very solid, and the perfect size.  It needs a polish, and I’d have my guy look at it, but all in all a great piece.  I would add a simple leather strap, like this one from Vieux Halloo:

I didn’t pull the trigger, and it’s haunting me.  The price was just above my comfort level (especially since Mrs. RCS wasn’t with me).  I can’t say it won’t come home with me if I come across it next month…

How much did they want? Those go for north of two grand most of the time.

I’d steer clear of a $2k+ vintage watch from anyone but a trusted and recommended watch dealer/specialist. That Gallet looks great (don’t for the love of God polish a vintage case) and on the right tapered lizard strap could be a nice piece. Just remember, if the movement needs cleaning or repair, $$$.
