RCS Likes: Brooks Brothers Collegiate Collection

Brooks Brothers recently released the Collegiate Collection – selected items (polos, OCBDs, sweaters and ties) from fifteen different schools.  I can get behind this – but we need more schools.  Think SEC and ACC – where Gameday is a holiday.  The best part about these – small logos.  There is nothing worse than the ‘gas-station’ look when sporting your favorite teams’ gear.  I especially like the OCBDs – the logos are like a well placed monogram.

College football starts in two weeks – the good folks at Brooks Brothers will have you set up just in time.  Here are some of the goods:

I’m a little surprised they aren’t offering a sweater vest in the Ohio State collection.  Oh wait…

The real question is why ANYTHING for Ohio State? Boo. Definitely need to finish the SEC but they can leave out Florida. Unless, of course, Brooks Brothers is interested mass producing jorts.

One more indicator of bad judgment by Brooks – they should leave this stuff to the college bookstores. What next? NASCAR wear?

Georgetown-branded boxing gloves and grappling helmets.

I don’t know how this will play out but the decision to enter this market is interesting. While schools already have a lot of clothing available, it would seem that there is space for a retailer with a reputation like Brooks Bros. I went to University of Tennessee and the options weren’t all that great. We had Volunteer Traditions but even they had limited designs and apparel. I think Brooks Bros could successfully offer this type of product even at stadium and University bookstores (thinking ties and things that don’t require special sizes) and be successful at providing cool new designs where they did not previously exist.

Love the concept, but the execution needs some work.

Ordered the Auburn polo, arrived two days ago. Nice shirt. Button downs look okay but I don’t like that they are only offering non-irons. Merino sweaters are nice, ties are awful.
When they announced this line the plan was to offer the apparel through campus stores. Wonder what happened to that plan?
