On The List: Beretta A300 Outlander

I know, I know.  I have been talking about getting a shotgun for years.  Trip and Jordan are probably rolling their eyes at this post.  Regardless, I am so tired of borrowing guns.  I have come to a decision…the Beretta A300 Outlander will be mine…I love it.  Santa?  Are you listening?

    Why not make a Silver Pigeon 686 O/U your first? It’s a classic you can pass down to your own children one day.

    Consider the Beretta A400 Xplor Action. Just picked one up, love it

    If you’ve never owned a shotgun and are buying one for the first time, Remington 870 Super Express. The most classic shotgun ever made. Never jams, will last a lifetime and is a fraction of what any Beretta is. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Beretta, but my 870 is the best gun I own. Something to be said for the classics.

    While I agree that the above scatterguns are great choices, a semi-auto like the Beretta should be your first. Only go for a pump if your budget demands it.
    Only go for an over-under after youve gained some appreciation and understanding for more “blue collar” guns.

    The Outlander looks tough enough for ducks and refined enough for a quail hunt. And of course a great dove gun.

    CDS hit the nail on the head with the comment above. All I can add to what he said is that I purchased the A300 about a year ago and I love it. The price point can’t really be beat and you can use it to shoot whatever you’re after. It preforms as well on the skeet range as it does in a dove field or turkey blind.

    I agree with RHW-The Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon O/U is a fantastic shotgun. I have had one for years and love it. I also have a Beretta A300 in camo that I use for wtaerfowl and it is a great choice

    @RHW – I’d rather have a semi-auto as my first…something I can shoot with, and use as a boat oar if needed. A 20 Gauge O/U is #2.

    @Steven B – I’ve heard good things…

    @Beau – good to hear.

    @JRS coming from Oklahoma and avidly hunting my state, Texas, Arkansas and NW Louisiana, I can honestly say that my 870 Super Express is the best gun I’ve ever owned. The others are great guns, but too much marketing and not enough quality with the exception of Beretta’s – the only thing that in my opinion can compare. It’s more about personal preference
