Early Spring Picks

We’ve been getting spoiled by these warm snaps here in Atlanta.  It was in the 70’s all weekend, which reminds us that dressing in early Spring isn’t the easiest thing: it’ll be 40 in the morning and 70 in the afternoon.  Layers make it alright.  Pack it on in the morning, and lose it after lunch.  It’s somewhat annoying, but whatever.  At least the Masters is almost here.

We are starting to see the Spring goods start to hit the shelves.  The colors and the fabrics are lightening up, so follow suit.  In addition, reassess what’s going on with your accessories.  Here are the goods I like coming into Spring (and OUT of Winter):

From top left:

1. Carrera Aviator Sunglasses:  You’ve got the Ray Bans / RE’s, maybe a pair of Persols…  Add something new to the lineup.  These Carrera’s have a cool 70’s race car vibe to them, and the price is tough to beat.
2. L.L. Bean Cotton Cable Sweater:  The perfect layer, and only $44.  It isn’t heavy like the fisherman’s sweater.  The cable knit gives it some texture, which will look great under your Barbour or under a puffer vest.
3. Ghurka 15 Inch Laptop Case:  My approach to minimalism is reaching new heights.  This case is just big enough to carry around a 13″ Macbook Air, a Moleskine, and a couple pens.  A lot easier than carrying around a briefcase all the time.
4. Thomas Mason Stripe Knit Tie:  Knit ties are all the rage, but Thomas Mason does great work with this striped option.  Texture is king.
5. Barbour Berkshire Check Shirt:  while I’m not a big logo guy, I am a big fan of unique, exclusive pieces that have a one-of-a-kind feel to them.  This gingham from Barbour has a cool pheasant along for the ride.  This is the type of logo that is forgiven.
6. Ball and Buck Premium Leather 1″ Belt:  The medium brown belt will wear in very nicely.  The 1″ thickness will dress up any outfit.
7. Levis X Sid Mashburn Garment Dyed 501 Jeans:  We don’t need to dig too deep here.  Sid kills it with his garment dyed Levi’s, and this British Khaki option is another home run.
8. Wolverine 1883 Marco Suede Chukka Boots:  A little lighter than snuff, but darker than cream, these suede chukkas are about as cool as it gets.
9. Ledbury Larchmont Check Shirt: A touch of linen will soften up this shirt – just enough to make those sunny afternoons workable.  Touch it up with an iron between each wearing and you’ll be in business.
10. Brooks Brothers Hopsack Sport Coat:  Lightweight and good over any solid shirt.  This will work for cool mornings and date nights.  The tonal blue plaid gives it a fresh look.
11. Filson Grab and Go Tote:  It’s great to see Filson offer a tote below $100 again.  This tin cloth will patina well, but before it does, get your monogram embroidered in a dark, primary color (navy, hunter green, brown), or go big and do it in blaze orange.

All good selections for springtime. Especially the check shirts and Mashburn 501s! For belts, why not go with a center bar buckle over the heel bar? No need to go Miles Standish, but a brass center bar buckle has far more appeal and interest.

It’s certainly felt warm enough to be wearing everything you shared. Still holding out hope for a bit of cold weather but reckon I should start dusting off the check shirts and chinos
