Hodinkee’s ‘Talking Watches’ and My Wish List

So I am at the front-end of becoming a ‘watch guy’.  I absolutely love learning about fine timepieces and understanding the histories and nuances of each brand.  Besides being one of the coolest sites on the Internet, Hodinkee is an excellent resource for guys like me…as well as the more experienced watch collectors/admirers. They have […]

You need to add an Omega Speedmaster to your list. Hodinkee is an incredible site.

It’s not obvious to me why the IWC, a stainless steel pilot’s watch with second hand and date, would garner the nickname “Tuxedo.” Please elaborate.

JRS - September 30, 2013 - 10:02 AM

Tuxedo = I would wear it with a tuxedo…or at tuxedo-appropriate events.

JD - September 30, 2013 - 10:20 AM

Is the Breitling Cosmonaute still on your list?

James - September 30, 2013 - 1:42 PM

+1 for the Speedmaster. Not going to find many watches with as fine a pedigree as that one.

ELI - September 30, 2013 - 3:52 PM

Remember when he said his first ten watches were a mistake… Skip the Panerai, save a mistake. Save up for a Patek, trust me, it will hurt, but in the long run, it will be a solid investment.

The IWC Mark XVII is a fantastic watch, but an occasion worthy of a tux is worthy of a dress watch (if one chooses to wear a watch).

I have a Raymond Weil Parsifal that I love: http://www.gemnation.com/images/watches/RayW/9541-ST-00658.jpg

Still lusting after a Breitling Montbrillant Datora as I have for years: http://hypebeast.com/image/2009/05/breitling-montbrillant-datora-watch-1.jpg

Does Hodinkee or any other site have a good post on getting started it watches?

The mil-sub on the Bond nato strap is perfection.

I like that IWC. I’d also consider myself a budding “watch guy”. I inherited a Rolex GMT w/ pepsi bezel when my father passed away several years ago. My fiance surprised me with an Omega Aqua Terra Ryder Cup Captain’s watch as a birthday/engagement present a couple of weeks ago so I guess I’ve got a decent little collection going.
Hoping I can get her on board with tolerating yet another expensive hobby.
I discovered JS Watch company when I was Iceland a few years ago. They produce some very cool time pieces. Check them out if/when you get a chance.

Allow Me To Introduce: La Matera Belts

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of belts.  All shape and styles.  I believe that belts add a necessary punch to an outfit that is comparable to a good pair of shoes.  If you are going to go to great lengths, then why skimp on a belt?  La Matera has been popping up […]

I said it before when you were giving one away and I’ll say it again. Those are killer belts.

That brown tonal houndstooth belt… wowsers that’s awesome

What I Like: The Ledbury Sport Coat

As you all know, Ledbury makes some of the best dress shirts out there.  Their fit, style, and quality are right on queue for their price point.  The Pauls from Richmond know how to do it right – not only do they have an eye for great style, but they are some of the coolest […]

Did you just say “drinks with the boys at the club”?

Also, this is a sport coat not a blazer.

Quilted Jacket Roundup

I woke up this morning and there was a chill in the air.  It was in the mid-60s (a mercury level we’ll celebrate on the other end come February), and I honestly needed an additional layer.  By 9:00AM it was worthless, but all in all, it served it’s purpose.  In leiu of a blazer, a […]

A Visit to State Traditions (Volume 2)

Not only does State Traditions make some of the best state-inspired merchandise out there, but they are a good crew.  Their hats, shirts, belts, and other goods don’t rely on flashy NASCAR-like style, instead relying on appropriate color pallets and quality. What State Traditions has done very well is managing their growth.  Just a few […]
