When I first viewed these pix I was speechless. In the mid-50′s I was a young boy living in Jacksonville. Our next door neighbors owned a lot on the St. John’s River and our family would spend many weekends with them helping to build their dock and dockhouse. The memories of fishing, crabbing, shrimping and spotting manatees from the dock are some of the fondest of my life. You pictures capture exactly the scenes I remember so fondly. We moved away in 1958 before they built a house on the lot. Thank you so much for taking me back. May 14, 2012 - 11:17 AM
The view of those docks is even better on top of my little Whaler. When I lived in DC and NYC and got homesick, it was always about not being able to hop on a boat to clear my mind. Thanks for the pics, but don’t tell too many people how wonderful it is here. We don’t want it to get too crowded! May 16, 2012 - 1:42 PM
