Happy Memorial Day

“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.” – General George S. Patton

A great quote from a great man, thank you.

Leave it to George Patton to put it so well.

Madras (of the Day) and a Tote

Being the huge madras fan that I am, I’m jumping on the Tucker’s ‘Madras of the Day‘ bandwagon. Here’s mine: Hathaway – made in India, long sleeved, complete with built in collar-stays. I have no idea how old it is, but it has the J. Press-esque flap front pocket and white buttons. One of my […]

Nice bag, I like the outside pocket.

Skip - May 28, 2010 - 1:03 AM

Love the colors of the Tote.

Main Line Sportsman - May 28, 2010 - 3:55 AM

Heck with the madras…I like that fine Lab…..

Anonymous - June 1, 2010 - 10:35 PM

Nice dog – Labs are the best.

Totes are for girls.

Laguna Beach Trad - June 3, 2010 - 8:47 AM

Beautiful shirt! I really like it. The tote is nice, too, though I sometimes suspect that totes aren't the most appropriate bags for chaps. However, if you use it to carry a bottle of whiskey, a few cigars, a copy of The Rake, and some books on military history, such concerns are easily dispelled.

JRS - June 7, 2010 - 12:55 AM

Trip / Skip – Thanks, guys.

MLS – that Lab is as is good as it gets. She is my partner in crime…

Anon / LBT – I should clarify – the only time I use totes is when traveling. I don't use them everyday. They work great as a 'catch-all'.

Let The Tide Pull Your Dreams Ashore - June 8, 2010 - 5:56 PM

That tote is a total score! xx

Good stuff!

There has been quite a bit of talk about pre- ‘worn’, ‘destroyed’, and/or ‘broken in’. While I don’t have a huge problem with this, I do take issue with the mark-up. I’m a big J. Crew fan, but I can’t justify spending an extra $35 for ‘broken in’ Sperry Topsiders. Try buying a fresh pair […]

I recently visited an Orvis store to have a look at their "surfwashed pure cotton twill shorts" in blue for $59.00. I ultimately decided on a pair of the "CFO Collection Oxford Cloth shorts" in blue for an extra twenty dollars as they are more dressy. Is the quality of the fabric (oxford cloth) worth the extra twenty bucks or did I just fall for a marketing gimmick? Thanks.

Great post!

RHW - May 25, 2010 - 3:52 PM

Just ordered a pair of the surfwashed blue chinos. And a pair in "bone" to get the discount.

Great post. I quite enjoy checking out your blog. You do a fantastic job with it. I hope you've been having a wonderful week.

JRS - June 7, 2010 - 12:48 AM

Anon – Oxford Cloth pants/shorts are awesome. They get better with age.

RHW – Enjoy! Let me know what you think…

Skip / Keith – Thanks!

RCS Likes: Volunteer Traditions

I’ve mentioned Traditional State in a few of my prior posts. The company was a brother project for Volunteer Traditions (which focused strictly on Tennessee) to expand for other states. That said, all of the products have been consolidated under the Volunteer Traditions brand, and have started expanding. In a good way. Instead of offering […]

Brent – yes, VT does have a great selection. I was at M.S. McLellan in Knoxville last weekend, and their Tri-Star hats are everywhere. In every color.

Footjoys – In need of a retread

These are my Footjoy Classic Dry Premier golf shoes. As you can see, the rubber on the bottom of left shoe has deteriorated like an old tire left in the sun. It doesn’t look like it should be paired with the right shoe. I spoke to customer service at Footjoy, and they directed me to […]

Do you always ride when you play? I'll bet you a dollar it's from the left shoe rubbing against the metal ridge of the cart as you let your left foot hang halfway off the cart. Still, shouldn't have happened. FJ customer service is great, you shouldn't have a problem there, although they might try to give you a new pair of Icons instead of fixing them.

JRS - June 7, 2010 - 12:45 AM

Anon – I do ride, and that could be the reason. Update (I'll post on this when they arrive), is that FJ is resoling the shoe at no cost. I spoke to them last week, and they said it was a 100% defect. It'll be on my doorstep during the first week of July.

Love the Persols. Have a pair myself. But watch out. If you plan to use them for 'people watching,' or 'girl watching' in particular, be aware that women can sometimes see your eyes through the lens, as several have pointed out to me.
